Postdoctoral Positions Available
Post-doctoral positions in the Department of Biochemistry
involve working on an independent research project with a member
of the faculty and are open to people with a Ph.D. in biochemistry,
chemistry, molecular biology, or a related field. Most of these
positions are for an average of two to three years. Salaries are
negotiable with the faculty member involved, but are competitive.
Postdoctoral Research Position in Molecular Virology
One postdoctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Zucai Suo’s laboratory
(http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~zsuo/)
to study virology, innate immunity, and biochemistry relevant to the infection of hepatitis C
and to develop anti-viral agents.
The candidate should have solid background in cell-based assays,
confocal and multiphoton imaging and microscopy, immunofluoresence,
RNA synthesis and purification, Western-blot, Kinase assays, quantitative RT-PCR, subcloning, PCR,
and protein purification.
Please contact Dr. Suo through email at suo.3@osu.edu, or phone (614) 688-3706, or regular mail:
880 Bio. Sci., 484 West 12th Ave., Department of Biochemistry, Ohio State University, Columbus, OH 43210.
Postdoctoral Position in Single Molecule Fluorescence Spectroscopy
One postdoctoral position is available immediately in an enzymology laboratory to elucidate
the kinetics and dynamics of polymerization catalyzed by human and viral DNA/RNA polymerases
using single molecule Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) technology.
Background in single molecule technologies, enzyme kinetics (stopped-flow and
rapid chemical quench measurements, data analysis, etc.), biophysics, and protein purification is preferred.
An important criterion for selection will be the ability of the desired individual to pursue
independent research in an active multi-disciplinary setting.
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, CV, and arrange to have
three letters of recommendation sent to: Dr. Zucai Suo, Associate Professor,
Department of Biochemistry, The Ohio State University.
Dr. Suo can be contacted by email (suo.3@osu.edu) or phone (614-688-3706).
Further information about the research projects in the Suo Lab can be obtained from http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~zsuo/.
Postdoctoral Position in Mechanistic Enzymology
One postdoctoral position is available immediately in an enzymology laboratory to elucidate
the kinetic mechanisms of polymerization catalyzed by human and viral DNA/RNA polymerases,
and to kinetically characterize enzymes involved in bio-fuel synthesis.
Background in enzyme kinetics (stopped-flow and rapid chemical quench measurements,
data analysis, etc.), biophysics, protein purification, recombinant DNA techniques,
computational chemistry is preferred.

One postdoctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Zucai Suo’s laboratory
(http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~zsuo/)
to study protein functions and interactions through protein X-ray crystallography.
The candidate should have a PhD in structural biology and have extensive experience
in all aspects of protein X-ray crystallography, including protein expression and purification,
crystallization, structure determination and refinement.
Experience with baculovirus expression system is a plus.
The protein targets are human kinases and DNA polymerases.

Postdoctoral Research Position in NMR Structure Biology
One postdoctoral position is available immediately in Dr. Zucai Suo’s laboratory
(http://www.biosci.ohio-state.edu/~zsuo/)
to study enzyme dynamics through macromolecular NMR.
The candidate should have a PhD in structural biology and have extensive experience
in all aspects of NMR, including protein expression and purification, NMR structure
determination and refinement, and enzyme dynamics.
